  • Fall 2025 in New York State: Sept 29-30 in Letchworth State Park

It is the end of September and we have put our Winnie (and Mini and bikes) on the road after a great family weekend celebrating the marriage of Vicki’s cousin Frank Sinito Jr and Marissa Sinito.

This trip will take three weeks as we circle the Finger Lakes in New York State. There are plans to visit many National Historic Sites (and therefore get many stamps for our passport book), but the government shutdown may affect our plans. The RV is booked in non-federal campsites, so at least our overnight stays aren’t affected.

Our first stop is to Letchworth State Park, which is on the western edge of the finger Lakes. The Genesee River has cut a huge canyon through this area, and the state park has a park road that is 17 miles long.

The campsites were spacious, but only provided electricity. So we partially filled our water tank and survived living on the on-board water.

We enjoyed talking to some of the other campers. The weather was cool, with the nightly lows in the high 40’s and the daily highs in the 70’s. Great outdoor weather. This was a 2 night stop, so there was a lot we didn’t explore. But we did explore the park.

Steve started the explorations with a three mile hike along Kisil Point (trail 18) with Lexi that originated from the campground. And the next morning Steve got on his bike and biked along the Park Road for 7.5 miles (to the Tea Table stop). And another 7.5 miles back.

Later in the afternoon Vicki, Steve and Lexi got in the MiniCooper to visit the falls. Steve was grateful that he stopped biking when he did, the road south of Tea Table was very much uphill. We visited the Lower Falls first, which required some hiking to get a good view.

After the Lower Falls we went to the Upper and Middle Falls. But first we had an ice cream stop!

After ice cream we took a short hike to the Upper Falls.

Then we visited the Middle Falls, which were the most spectacular of the three (given the amount of water that was flowing.)

On the way back to the campsite we stopped at a couple of different overlooks to view the canyon.

Since the next campground on our trip was only an hour away, we managed to squeeze in nine holes of golf at the Livingston Country Club. We parked the RV in the parking lot and left Lexi inside to guard it.
