2026 March 6-8: Chesapeake Campground and Virginia Beach

The drive from Myrtle Beach to our next stop, Chesapeake Campground (https://www.chesapeakecampgroundva.com/), was long: 8 hours of road time. It was made longer because we tried to follow business route 17 through Myrtle Beach rather than taking the bypass. Even when we got on the bypass we had multiple stop lights along the way. But the drive was pleasant once we got going. We crossed over several wide rivers along the way north and ran through some patches of afternoon fog.

Unfortunately the length of the trip, the not-so-shortcuts, and delays meant we got to our campground just as it was getting dark. Some of the delays were due to the fog cover that crept in towards the evening.

We had asked Cynthia if she could give us a hand with moving our luggage from the RV to Mom and Dad’s (Joe and Chris Galecki’s) house, we felt that the mini would get too crowded with the dog, guitar, dirty laundry and duffels full of clothes. So Cynthia met us over at the parking lot as we checked in. It was good to see her! And her SUV!

Getting into our campsite was challenging. The directions we were given required us to make a very sharp turn into the site. So Steven circled around to get a better approach. But he took the RV off the roadway and it got stuck in the soft ground. The rear wheels were spinning in the muck! God answered Vicki’s prayers for help. V: every experience is a learning opportunity – we learned don’t try to find our campsite in the dark and this campground was pitch dark. As we were trying to get unstuck, I could feel it going deeper. Steve called the office to see if there was someone onsite who helped with these “opportunities” and the answer was NO. But the Someone who is always there and answers our sincere prayers heard. My prayer: Jesus, we are helpless and we know with You all things are possible. Please send the right people to be your hands and feet and get us out of this mess. It wasn’t but a couple of minutes and a kind person came by and asked Steve if we needed help. Soon, a couple of men with a big pick-up truck and a chain managed to back the RV out of the mud and then we got into its proper site. Yeah God!

Since we were going to spend the weekend with Mom and Dad, all we did was to hook up the electricity to the RV (so that the refrigerator would run.) We did go back to the RV on Sunday to drop off clothes and the guitar (half of our stuff). This made it possible to get back to the RV on Monday without needing Cynthia’s help (Cynthia did not complain about not having to get up early on Monday to drive us out.) Sadly the RV’s freezer was not freezing when we came back on Monday, a loss of some breakfast sausages, hamburger patties, and dairy products within the refrigerator.

We had a great visit with Mom and Dad. We ate lunch at Sorella’s (https://sorellasvb.com/), a very nice Italian restaurant. Lunch of course included dessert.

We also had the obligatory (and always yummy) lunch at Beach Bully. Vicki and I love that brisket!

Beach Bully followed Mass on Sunday, a Mass that came quicker than expected because of the time change! Steve woke up at 7:30, wondering why he got up so late. Everyone else was also taken by surprise about the missing hour and therefore running late.

Mom spoiled us with food while we were there (no surprise). We had ribs, panko-topped chicken, and shrimp etouffee. Sadly, the deviled eggs have stopped. And we played many games of pinochle and nines.

We also were gifted a rectangular Polish dish, adding to our collection. And no, we don’t need help adding to this collection of lovely Polish dishes!
